Theory Lesson - Chromatic Intervals

It is now time to look at the chromatic intervals. Chromatic intervals include: minor, diminished, and augmented intervals.

A minor interval is formed by lowering a major interval a half step. Remember from the last lesson that 2nds, 3rds, 6ths, and 7ths are major intervals.

An augmented interval occurs when we make an interval larger. The interval that gets augmented here is the major or perfect interval.

A diminished interval occurs when we lower a perfect or minor interval by a half step.
